Introduction On Thursday, March 1, 2012, CSU/APA will host the Teaching Cleveland Foundation in the Bonda Room from 2 pm to 5 pm. The Teaching Cleveland Foundation is a pending 501 (3) (c) organization with a stated mission to develop Cleveland-centered curricula in area schools that deepen an understanding of Greater Cleveland’s rich history, foster an appreciation of its varied resources, and equip participants with the skills and capacities to connect, collaborate, and commit. The Project The Nine Twelve Student Planning Project, which the Teaching Cleveland Foundation is promoting a plan that introduces new initiatives and builds around existing assets to create a mixed-use neighborhood that will serve the needs of the district and complement the rest of the investments underway in downtown Cleveland. This project involves approximately 30 students from four area high schools: Western Reserve Academy, Beachwood, Hawken, and Gilmour Academy. The Program The following program is divided into two sections: 2 pm - 3:30 pm - Panelists from four sectors: Urban Design & Development, Sustainability, Market Forces (Real Estate and its Processes), and Community Engagement, which include: Allen Wiant- PlayhouseSquare Real Estate Services David Browning- Managing Director of CB Richard Ellis Michael Deemer- Vice President of Business Development of Downtown Cleveland Alliance Kevin Schmotzer- City of Cleveland Brent Donnell- Charter One Bank 3:30 pm - 5 pm - Breakout Groups representing the four sectors. CSU/APA members are especially encouraged to show up and offer their own advice, comments, opinions on the topic of the sector. The first meeting of the Spring Semester will be an informational meeting that will detail you in on who we are and what we are about, in and out of the classroom. The meeting will revolve around opportunities to get involved as well as learning about the APA National Conference, held this year in Los Angeles. See you in the Bonda Room @ 5 pm. |
